Leaving LA: The "Fifty Something" Tour Heads to Mexico This Week

Leaving LA: The

The highly anticipated "Fifty Something" tour has officially launched last week in grand fashion, with Geddy, Alex, drummer Anika Nilles, and keyboardist Loren Gold taking over the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for a massive four-night opening run. It had been 11 years since the band graced that same stage to conclude the R40 tour, and the production pulled no punches for this momentous return. Delivering the kind of visual spectacle fans have come to expect, the light and stage show were truly impressive, proving that the band’s legendary live production remains as sharp as ever.

Musically, the opening run kept the faithful constantly guessing. Rather than settling into a static routine, each night presented a significantly different setlist, with less than 50% of the songs repeating across the four shows. Fans were treated to astonishing deep cuts and tour debuts with the sheer variety of the setlists during this LA residency set an exhilarating tone for the rest of the tour. While we are keeping the main set lists under wraps on this news post, we have to mention one incredible highlight: Aimee Mann made a surprise appearance during all four LA shows, joining Geddy on stage to perform "Time Stand Still." (For those who want to see exactly what else the band played, you can view the complete set lists HERE — SPOILER WARNING).

Offstage, the fan experience is elevated to another level entirely for attendees who purchased select VIP packages. These fans have the opportunity to explore an incredible, special VIP lounge meticulously curated by longtime Rush historian and super-fan Ray Wawrzyniak, who helped organize nearly the entire exhibit. The space serves as a brilliant retrospective look at the band's unparalleled history, giving fans an up-close look at numerous rare artifacts and memorabilia spanning decades of past tours.

Adding a highly personal and interactive touch to the experience, Wawrzyniak is serving as the official host and docent in the lounge for roughly thirty shows on the tour. Having already co-hosted the first two stops, he offers a welcoming environment, chatting with countless fans and sharing exclusive, deeper insights into the items on display. Visitors to the lounge can also look forward to Wawrzyniak running on-the-spot trivia and handing out prizes to participants, making it an unforgettable celebration of the band's legacy.

Following the triumphant conclusion of the Los Angeles residency on June 13th, the band is now heading south to Mexico City for two dates (June 18 and 20). These highly anticipated shows are particularly notable, as they mark the band's first return to Mexico since their lone appearance back in October 2002 on the Vapor Trails tour.
