Rush Featured in June 2012 Issue of MOJO Magazine

Image
Update (05/08/2012): The entire article is now online and can be viewed HERE . Enjoy. The June 2012 issue of the UK Music Magazine MOJO will contain a eight-page feature on Rush. From the website: RUSH: How the highbrow Canuck proggers fed on Tolkien, Ayn Rand, weed and whiskey, survived critics and personal tragedies to become “the biggest cult band in the world.” Though Rush isn't a cover-story feature, the magazine cover art does include Rush's Star Man logo and the tagline "RUSH. Alienation. Weed. Epic Insanity!" . The issue should hit the newsstands shortly. We'll also have a complete transcription of the article in the near future. If anyone out there happens to have the issue in hand already, please let us know via the comments section below.

MIDIpedals.Com Interview With Rush Roadie Tony Geranios (aka Jack Secret) - Part 1.5

Image
Back in March, MIDIpedals.com posted the first part of an extensive interview that they conducted with long-time Rush roadie Tony Geranios (aka Jack Secret). Terry Goyette of MidiPedals just informed me that Part 1.5 of the interview is now available on their website . From MidiPedals: A couple of weeks after posting Part 1, Tony called me and hoped to finish up the interview. When he called I was not prepared to record the call, and let him know I would need to call him back. I am assuming Rush has started tour rehearsals, so he has been busy and we haven’t been able to do Part 2 because we haven’t been able to schedule a second interview. Here are a few questions I emailed to him and his answers. I call it Part 1.5 in hopes we can do Part 2 soon. Both Part 1 (Video) and Part 2 (Transcribed) can be accessed HERE . Thanks to Terry Goyette for passing along the news. Related News Stories [ MIDIpedals.Com Interview With Rush Roadie Tony Geranios (aka Jack Secret) - March

Alex Lifeson: The High Times Interview Now Online

Image
An interview with Alex Lifeson is featured in the June 2012 issue of High Times Magazine . The discussion with Alex focuses on Rush's influence with marijuana, his thoughts on the legalization of the drug and its inspiration on the Rush classic A Passage to Bangkok . However a comment about the making of Clockwork Angels was particularly interesting... You founded Rush in 1968 and still seem to find so much joy in recording and performing. What makes this new album unique? All of our records are thematic, but this one is a little more of an old-fashioned concept album in the tradition of 2112 and Hemispheres. We just recorded a string section yesterday for five of the songs-we still have to sit down and see what we'll use from that, but it sounded fantastic. Rush hasn't used strings in a while, and it's really added a lot of emotional impact to the songs. You can read the entire article at this LINK .

Rush Receive Revolver's Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award

Image
Last month we let you know that Rush was up for Revolver Magazine's Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achivement Award. The ceremony took place last night and Neil Peart was in attendance to accept the award. From Ultimate Classic Rock: After giving a plug to the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, Tenacious D presented the band in their typical style, with Kyle Gass and Jack Black trading lines of praise about the band. “For almost 40 years, this band has been blowing our minds and expanding everyone’s definition of rock,” Gass said. “Can anyone imagine a world without ‘Tom Sawyer?’” Black continued as the duo proceeded to name other Rush classics. “These songs and many others have become part of our collective DNA. They either inspired you enough to pick up an instrument and practice like hell” To which Gass replied, “Or, let’s be honest, discouraged you from even trying to approach their technical prowess.” Drummer Neil Peart was the only member of the band on han

Clockwork Angels to be Released in Lossless 96kHz/24-bit via HDTrack.Com

Image
According to Roadrunner Records, Rush's forthcoming album Clockwork Angels will be released in lossless 96kHz/24-bit FLAC through HDTracks.Com . Long-time reader MrSatyre reached out to Roadrunner to confirm this. Here's what he had to say about the release: Folks, spoke with Roadrunner, and this album will be available on HDTracks.com in lossless 96kHz/24-bit FLAC! This is awesome news, people, as you will be able to listen to the new album in true studio master tape quality, not lowly 44.1kHz/16-bit CD-quality audio (to say nothing of *choke* crappy MP3)! For those of you not in the know, FLAC is Free Lossless Audio Codec, and it's been around for quite a while. Of the numerous lossless audio codecs out there, which allow you to listen to an original recording in all its finite glory, or rip your existing music collection without losing any details and nuances to compression, FLAC is the most common and most widely distributed among audiophiles. Original Geddy Lee Portrait Available for Sale

Image
Artist Mark Tumber recently contacted me, sharing an original piece of art that he created featuring Geddy Lee, the classic RUSH logo and Geddy's Fender Jazz Bass. Mark is making the original drawing available for sale, as well as prints. From Mark: I recently finished drawing a photo-realistic rendering of Geddy Lee (see watermarked image ). I've always been a fan of RUSH and the prowess they each have over their 'art'. This portrait clocked in at roughly 40 hours of actual drawing time. It also shows the Fender Jazz Bass that Geddy has always played & been a spokesman for. This drawing would look great in a music room, bar or den and is the perfect gift for any RUSH fan or aspiring bass player. Geddy has a very expressive and unique visage and I'm pretty sure that I captured his 'look'. The original is 14"x17" (unframed) and is available for purchase for $800. Courier costs (if applicable) would be an additional expense. I also h

Rush Clockwork Angels Album Cover and Tour Book Artwork Revealed?

Image
Ed from RushIsABand just let me know that he was fed what appears to be legitimate artwork for Rush's upcoming Clockwork Angels album and tour. The artwork came from a very reliable source, though it has yet to be confirmed publicly by the band or Anthem Entertainment. The album cover depicts a clock of runes in the familiar Clockwork Angels style, and has an imposing, swirling red vortex in the background. The possible tourbook cover is very reminiscent of some of the artwork that appeared in the Snakes & Arrows album booklet. What's more interesting about the tour book cover is the fact that a dalmation and a fire hydrant are depicted as well. Unquestionably, this is somehow tied to the Signals album which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Could this indicate that, similar to the Time Machine Tour of 2010-11, Rush are planning on performing Signals in its entirety during the tour? Time will tell. Hopefully Rush will confirm the album artwo

We'll have more information on the tribute album as it becomes available.

Rush to Appear on the Cover of Rolling Stone Magazine

Image
Update: April Fools, Everyone! Yes, by now I'm sure you all figured out that Rush appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine was, of course, an April Fool's joke. It was a blast perpetrating this joke alongside my partners in crime, Eric from Power Windows and Ed from RushIsABand . The three of us came up with this idea several weeks back and have been carefully plotting out the details ever since. We all hope you enjoyed the ride. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Rush news :-) Update: My contact at Rolling Stone Magazine just informed me that an excerpt from the cover story along with some photos are now available online. Check them out via this link: Rush in Rolling Stone - Image Excerpts . Enjoy! Now this is a first.
