Rush Signs With Roadrunner, Preps New Album for 2012

Update: Click HERE for the official press release from Roadrunner Records. Thanks RushFanForever . Billboard magazine has just announced that Rush has signed with Roadrunner Records ahead of their upcoming Clockwork Angels album which is slated for release in 2012. From the article : "After years of Roadrunner pursuing the band, Tom Lipsky [President, Lipsky Music LLC] presented a deal that worked and the timing was right," Rush manager Ray Danniels said in an announcement. "We wanted to be at a label focused on the rock genre -- and that's Roadrunner." The group's next full-length studio album, a long-gestating work titled "Clockwork Angels," will be released in 2012 on Roadrunner. The delay -- a lead single, "Caravan," was released in June 2010 -- was due to the success of their Time Machine Tour, which just wrapped. A first Roadrunner release will actually be a live album culled from the blockbuster tour. According to the l

Happy Birthday Alex Lifeson

Image
It was on this date back in 1953 that Rush Guitarist Alex Lifeson (born Aleksandar Zivojinovich) came into the world in Fernie, British Columbia. As Rush fans know, Lifeson founded the band in the summer of 1968 and was also responsible for bringing front-man Geddy Lee into the mix. In celebration of Alex's 58th birthday, Jonathan Alan Hill spearheaded a movement to have fans supply what they felt were some of Alex's finest songs; creating a playlist for his birthday. Jonathan coordinated the effort over at the Cygnus-X1.Net Facebook Group Page . Additionally, Ken Shipley of RushRadio.Org will be featuring the selected playlist beginning at 11 AM CST on the 27th. The playlist includes tracks from nearly every Rush album and highlights Alex incredible abilities over the decades. Many thanks to Jonathan, Ken, Kelly, and all the folks that participated with this tribute to our favorite guitarist. Happy Birthday, Alex -- and many happy returns.

Alex Lifeson Makes GuitarSquid's List of the Top 10 Guitarist Mullets

Image
GuitarSquid, the website that "...combines the two seemingly disparate entities' strengths, the squid's reach and the guitar's buzzworthiness..." has posted an interesting, if not exactly flattering, Top Ten List: The Top 10 Guitarist Mullets . Coming in at #10 (and thankfully no higher on the list) is Alex Lifeson: Sure, just about everyone has rocked a mullet at some point. But let's be honest... some mullets just rise above the rest. Although the mullet and its many variations are often identified with Canadians, hockey players in general, Australians and trailer parks South of the Mason Dixon line, let's not forget that gutiarists are a worthy subgroup for categorizing notable mullets. Many a guitarslinger has kept it all-business in the front and party-hardy in the back. 10. Alex Lifeson - Lifeson has been around long enough to have survived a number of hindsightful hair-don'ts, but his Hold Your Fire-era mullet is a perfect spe

Eddie Trunk Mentions Rush in Recent Interview

Image
Eddie Trunk, the host of VH1 Classic's That Metal Show as well as the weekly radio show: Eddie Trunk Live, which airs on Sirius/XM radio's Boneyard channel, recently did an interview with Noisecreep where he discusses his new book Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Book . As most fans know, Eddie is a very big fan of Rush and, as such, he devoted an entire chapter to the band in his book. During the interview, Eddie was asked about an interview he had with Neil Peart: I was working at VH-1 Classic. I'd interviewed Geddy and Alex, twice, and you know, Neil is shy and reserved and does not really do interviews. I'd gotten a call from a book publisher doing press for one of Neil's books, about him biking all over the country after the tragic loss of his wife and daughter. Neil wanted the interview to be with me because he'd seen me talk to Geddy and Alex and he felt like he trusted me- that I 'got' the band. It was a great hon
