Cygnus-X1.Net Enters its Second Decade of Operation

June 1st marks the anniversary of when Cygnus-X1.Net was first launched and 2014 marks the site's 10th Anniversary. Ten Years. It's hard to believe I've been at this for so long, and even harder to believe how quickly the time has flown by.

One of the most rewarding experiences of running Cygnus-X1.Net has to be the site's evolution and growth over the years. While the 'Star Trek' side of the shop has expanded modestly over the years, the LCARS theme has never really changed since Day 1. But here on the Rush side of the shop, the site has gone through numerous visual changes as well as significant content growth.

Back when I first launched the 'Rush Tribute' section of the site, I employed a Sphere Theme which I still look back at fondly all these years later. (Through the magic of the internet's web archive, you can still access that theme via this LINK.) Back then, the site sported about 40 or 50 individual pages on Rush including the album and lyric database, the image database and the beginnings of the tour archive. Today, the entirety of Cygnus-X1.Net houses over 1,500 individual pages with over 1,000 dedicated to Rush alone. It includes thousands of concert photos, hundreds upon hundreds of articles on the band, all the details and artwork on every official (and some unofficial) releases and so much more.

My, how we've grown - and not only within the confines of the site. Cygnus-X1.Net has expanded beyond its domain with a Facebook Group which has nearly 5,000 members and a Twitter Page with nearly 3,000 followers.

I'm still humbled and amazed at how far this site has come during the past ten years, and one thing is for certain - Cygnus-X1.Net would not be where it is today without the support of some fantastic people like Rob Michaelson (site designer and graphic artist), Carl McDonnell (graphic artist extraordinaire), Eric Hansen (of Power Windows fame), Ed Stenger (of RushIsABand), Heiko Klages (for hundreds of article contributions to the site) and everyone else who have visited, supported and contributed to the site over the years.
