Rush's Clockwork Angels Tour Begins - Set List Revealed LIVE
Update (09/10/2012): As expected, Rush made a few changes to the set list last night in their second concert on the Clockwork Angels tour. To see the changes, which apparently will alternate back and forth for each show, click HERE.
Update (09/09/2012): My photo album from the show, which includes over 400 pictures from the 3rd row, is now online. Check it out HERE.
Update (11:45pm EST): Well, the concert is over and it was fantastic. I hope everyone enjoyed the streaming of the set list. I also took several hundred photos which will be online sometime tomorrow. I tried to post them to this news stream, but obviously something went awry. Thanks everyone!
Update (2:00pm EST): We have arrived in Manchester!
It's been 433 days since Rush last took the stage, closing out their 2010-2011 Time Machine Tour last July at The Gorge outside of Seattle, Washington. Tonight, the band returns to open up their Clockwork Angels World Tour at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The tour, currently set to encompass 34 dates during 2012, will hit spots around the U.S. and Canada. After an extended break, Rush will resume the tour in May of 2013 to play across Europe for 10 dates. More concert dates have been promised from the band, but will likely not be announced until the end of the 2012 leg. For a complete tour date listing, click HERE.
Excitement and debate has been raging in the online Rush community over the set list for the tour. Rush's announcement that they'll be touring with a string ensemble, a first for the band, only further whet the appetite of fans and fueled the speculation about the potential for old songs to reappear - or make their debut - under the live setting.
As I will personally be in attendance at the tour opener in Manchester, I plan on posting the set list, LIVE as it happens on this page. I will also be posting pictures and pre-concert news right here as the day progresses (technological snafus not withstanding). So stay tuned to this page for updates throughout the day.
And for those who are also going to the show tonight, have a great time!

DeleteNo that is not the list. There is some truth to it, but that is not the set list because it has not been leaked.
ReplyDeleteHere's a big hope for Xanadu and The Trees. I have a hard time believing that set list. Rush never play over 30 tunes. Way too much work there.
ReplyDeleteI say lose Limelight, Subdivisions and Tom Sawyer. Overplayed through the years. All of Clockwork seems extreme also, but I get the need.
I agree, hoping they leave a few out that's always played, and add Xanadu, Jacobs ladder.
DeleteCan't be the set list... too long.
ReplyDeleteThey already said they wouldn't play all of Clockwork Angels, and they definitely won't play it in exact order....hoping they have room for Afterimage, Vapor Trail, and the Main Monkey Business...
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I'll be following so we're ready for Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. I'm more than excited!!

No way they leave out the Garden so u are clearly full of it
DeleteNo way they leave out the Garden so u are clearly full of it
DeleteNo way they leave out the Garden so u are clearly full of it
DeleteNo way they leave out the Garden so u are clearly full of it
DeleteGod I hope that's not it.
ReplyDeleteCant be the list... everyone seems to agree that Losing It is on the list for the first tiime... why bring strings with you... have an "anniversary" of Signals and not include it?? It makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteWhat a killer setlist I've heard a hint from my friend who works at the Verizon wireless amph. And that sounds almost exactly like what he said but he did include Losing It other than that its the setlist!
ReplyDeleteSoundcheck was: YYZ (with strings), Territories, and Subdivisions. Posted on the Rush Forum.
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced they are going to play the fear trilogy
ReplyDeleteSet list shmet list give me some god damn rush. !!!!!!!
DeleteFirst song is reported to be Subdivisions
ReplyDeletethe suspense is killing me
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteare they playing yet??
ReplyDeleteThey have to be onstage by now!! What are they playing?
ReplyDeleteThey have to be onstage by now!! What are they playing?
ReplyDeleteJust taking the stage - thatsa the reports. Lights out - video on.
ReplyDeleteSubdivisions is the first song!!!
ReplyDeleteSUB, Big Money, Force 10 (So far im jumping out of my skin for joy!)
ReplyDeleteGrand Designs
ReplyDeleteBrain exploding
ReplyDeleteBody Electric...mind blown!!!
ReplyDeleteomg!!!! so far awesome!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSO FAR, AS OF 8:12PM EST:
ReplyDeleteSUBDIVISIONS
THE BIG MONEY
FORCE TEN
GRAND DESIGNS (OMG!!!)
THE BODY ELECTRIC (OMG AGAIN!!!)
TERRITORIES??? (CAN'T TAKE IT!!! THIS IS TOO EPIC!!!)
DeleteOh God...I MUST attend this tour now!
ReplyDeleteHoping for New World Man this year!
ReplyDeleteBODY ELECTRIC
ReplyDeleteit's very synth oriented thus far. Big 80's hair songs
ReplyDeleteWow 3 Power Windows songs? Surprising but awesome!
ReplyDeleteAre they using the strings in place of the synths?
ReplyDeleteIs Geddy playing the Steinberger?
ReplyDeleteTerritories
ReplyDeletethis might be the coolest set list thus far...
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda shocked at the selection so far. Not that there's anything wrong with it but unless the strings are on new arrangements of all these songs I'm thinking they are picking easy to play material.
ReplyDeleteEasy to play ??????? You must have had a few beverages !!!! Ask anyone who plays anything and they will maybe slap you!
DeleteI meant easy for them Brian, not anyone else.
DeletePW ok.....but waiting for SIGNALS +!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't bypass the 70's...
ReplyDeleteAnalog Kid!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my era!!!! These songs are part of why I love this band so much
ReplyDeleteMe too. Not my favorite selection of songs but definately the time I really started liking them. 1982 freshman in HS 1986 senior class 1987 college
DeleteThere we gooooo!! ANALOG KID!!!
ReplyDeleteAnalog Kid!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome so far....I will be in CHicago next Saturday to see for myself!!!
ReplyDeleteIm so happy I could cry :)
ReplyDeleteI pray that they release a dvd of it
ReplyDeleteFeels like they'll have a block of CA even if they don't play the whole thing...
ReplyDeleteI hope The Trees makes the setlist!
ReplyDeleteAnd a cd too
ReplyDeletePower Windows is my favorite Rush album. Now I gotta get a seat close to the stage!!
ReplyDeleteThis isn't my fave material. I hope they shift into 2nd gear very soon.
ReplyDeletebravado is cool -feels like they're deliberately holding off on CA and the 70s
ReplyDeleteBravado - 40 somethings - this is our era. Our time. While our classmates were jizzing to hair bands and so called metal, these were the songs that made us fall passionately for this band. That mystic we couldn't explain. Still can't.
ReplyDeleteSo far, I simply could not have imagined a playlist this good. Now I'm just hoping they don't drop ANY of this before they get to LA in November!
ReplyDeleteThis setlist is so unconventional and Rush like.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THE FIRST 7 SONGS, AMAZING SETLIST
ReplyDeleteBravado is the first stinker for me
BRAVADO
ReplyDeleteWHERE'S MY THING (UNBELIEVABLE!)
Bravado is a very important song to the band. "We will pay the price, but we will not count the cost" - one of Neil's greatest lines...
ReplyDeleteThis is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Songs they haven't played in 25 YEARS!!!!
ReplyDeleteso far, the set list is not that great ,stuck in the same dacade, i have heard all these live in the past....wish they would mix it up a bit....oh well....
DeleteNow i am really hoping they release a cd of the tour
ReplyDeletesome really odd choiced. force ten? territories? body electric? of all the songs on those albums that they aren't going to play, this is what they picked?
ReplyDeleteThis is sick so far, not likely to drop but territories isnt a FAV! i SAW MANY EARLY 80S AND 2000S CONCERTS....Love to see presto or pass for the wifes sake!
ReplyDelete*choices
ReplyDeleteI love that they are so committed to bringing back this era of Rush that they EVEN are playing Where's My Thing (even if it is perhaps their weakest instrumental).
ReplyDeletedrum solo this early? they are really mixing the format up this time...
ReplyDeleteWow nice! Waiting for Jacob's!
ReplyDeletethey have to commit a big chunk to CA, so I'm thinking the 70's are getting mostly bypassed this time...
ReplyDeleteunless the drum solo is more than 50% new, it will be a piss break for sure.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'd want to hear it, but wouldn't it put exclamation point on the theme they developed here by coming out of the drum solo into The Heresy?!
ReplyDeleteHow do the strings sound with all these great RUSH tunes????? Anyone?
ReplyDeleteParty pooper !!!!!!!! ALL Rush is the same =GREAT!!!!!
Delete: ) Love RUSH!!!! Bridgeport CT 10-10!!!!!!
DeleteFar Cry -- first stinker for me. Fine, but no reason to play this on this tour -- stick a 70s tune here if you're going to break the theme.
ReplyDeleteThis is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Songs they haven't played in 25 YEARS!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Songs they haven't played in 25 YEARS!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy opinion: THIS SUCKS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the setlist so far? Setlist fm isn't updating
ReplyDeleteI hope they play some Permanent Waves and Farewell to Kings
ReplyDeletefar cry? really? this a far cry from being a good first set.
ReplyDeleteYou are ONE DIMENSIONAL and are not a true RUSH fan = Go Home, if you dont like it!
Deletegood setlist so far. would have swapped territories w/ middletown dreams
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you guys, but I am pretty burnt out on Far Cry. That's 3 straight tours. You'd think they'd retire it for this one.
ReplyDeleteLook at the pattern over the last 30 years !!!
DeleteI hate to admit that I'm underwhelmed so far. These aren't bad tunes so much as not necessarily the deep cuts I was hoping for. Having seen them on GUP and Power Windows, I've heard a lot of these tunes live before. I'll still have a blast seeing them regardless. I hope they're still going to surprise with something really rare...
ReplyDeleteHope the first set is the weak one...
ReplyDeleteI agree with above. Far Cry is the first not so amazing choice. They should have put in something unexpected from the 70s like making Memories or AFTK. But I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteNow intermission. Fans are talking about the 80s segment, blown away. Ready for the Clockwork Angels set.
I totally get the selection of material now! All of the most recognizable tunes from those albums have been played to death and released on different compilations and live packages. Any true Rush fan will appreciate the variety of not another hits tour and the possibility of getting them on a dvd. Thats why their Rush and no one else is.
ReplyDeleteI can support Rush in just about anything, but these selections, and the excessive Power Windows seems out of sorts...
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaa Waaaaaa Waaaaa !!!! You dont like Rush =- GO HOME!
DeleteI'd be stoked if they just played the full CA album in set two, and played a few select 70s tunes for the encore -- Jacob's Ladder, The Trees/Xanadu, and close with Tom Sawyer to avoid a newbee mutiny.
ReplyDeleteLimelight, Tom Sawyer, YYZ ...one of the three will be missed \i guaranteee it!
ReplyDeleteThey couldn't possibly. There would be riots!!!
DeleteRiot Away....Im betting YYZ is Gone
DeleteYYZ was in the sound check
DeleteJust using reverse psychology, im praying its in...tired of limelight and TS
DeleteYou know CA will be featured in the 2nd set. You know theyll have to play at least 3 or so of the standards (TS, TSOR, LL, YYZ). What does that leave? I'm going to be disappointed if we don't get something deep from the 2112 through Perm Waves era...
ReplyDelete10 f'ing songs?!?!?
ReplyDeleteWTF?!?!
This better improve or I'm in danger of selling my tickets! No wonder they didn't leak the set list. Nobody would have shown up!
You are a SUPERFICIAL FAN = (one who really does not like Rush, But llikes the songs the General Public Likes)....YOU MAKE RUSH SICK!!!!!!!!!!
Deletelove rush, but not that era. dissapointing so far.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both!! If the second set is all of CA I'm gonna me VERY unhappy!!
DeleteYou are NOT A FAN! GO HOME!(We do not want you here!!!)
DeleteI agree with that, though i wouldn't say that "Subdivisions" and "Big Money" are un-recognizable. Too bad they couldn't start off with something a little better and bury those two songs. I like "Territories" and "Analog Kid" back-to-back! Good stuff!!
ReplyDelete... Dude! Common man!! Tom Sawyer, Limelight and YYZ need to be retired! Those songs are getting SOOOOO OLD!!! Wanna impress me??? Play Superconductor ... Jacobs Ladder ... or In The End!!!
ReplyDeleteWow all the complaining just because they don't play the usual songs....I'm glad that they are playing something other then the usual songs.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. If it sounds and looks good then you got your moneys worth.
DeleteWho needs to hear YYZ, Limelight, Spirit of Radio played live again?! Buy every live album from Exit Stage Left forward, turn out the lights in your room, close your eyes, and imagine you're there. But Grand Designs?! I've been to every Rush show in LA since 1983, and it is a "diamond in the rough" like that which makes these shows special for me. Awesome setlist so far.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!!
DeleteGive IT To Them!
DeleteThe boys are in danger of a very big mistake here. That is a very poor set list thus far.
ReplyDeletethey've been in danger for 40 years, check with their accountant, I don't think they're to concerned.
DeleteYou are an IDIOT!!!!!
Deletewe need bytor, jacobs, natural science, ect...
ReplyDeleteNo we dont ! New RUSH is so much better! =ASK THEM!
Deletewhat do you know, you are probably just a kid. Im an old grissled veteran of Rush and I know better!
DeleteJacobs Ladder would be fantastic! I've got this weird feeling that the entire second set will be Clockwork...
ReplyDeleteWith the strings, I was fully hoping they would do Losing It for the first time ever. This would be the "Holy Grail" cap to this trip down memory lane. Also thought they would play Marathon or Manhattan Project with strings option. I'm thinking they may reserve strings solely for CA so as not to set a precedent for future tours.
ReplyDeleteAwesome...blown away...don't have time to listen to anyone cry... go watch tv
ReplyDeletefrom CA, I want to hear Seven Cites and Halo Effect. What about you guys ?
ReplyDeleteAnd The Garden
DeleteI applaud the setlist, rush through the years has mixed up the set more than any band I know. Most bands play the same set for years and maybe will change one or two songs in a decade of touring so for me I love all rush songs and the setlist being different is the most important thing to me not what songs but different songs. Imho.
ReplyDeleteTell them like it is !
DeleteWhy does everybody forget that Geddy can't SING the early stuff anymore? I want to remember songs like by-tor, Hemispheres, In the End, and other old classics as they were. The tuned-down, re-written melody deal like on Temples turns me off. Plenty of stuff out there that Geddy can still sing and sound great on.
ReplyDeletei cant believe the winers.....go watch tv
ReplyDeleteGo watch other bands !!!....Oh wait , there arent any other bands!
Deletehow was the drum solo?
ReplyDeleteRead an interview with Geddy yesterday and they are playin "almost all the CA songs".
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going bald and riven dell has to be played or else I'm not going :)
ReplyDeleteThat 80s set would be even sweeter if Geddy brought back the awesome Wal bass.
ReplyDeletei want to hear farewell to kings or im going to cry
ReplyDeleteCry Baby Cry!
DeleteIt's easy to complain from in from of the computer. I'm sure once we're there live we'll all be just fine.
ReplyDeleteLooking for a hot babe who likes Rush
ReplyDeleteSorry, man, chicks don't dig Rush. Didn't you get the memo?
DeleteThis chick digs Rush but is already married. Sorry.
Deletethe only things i'm happy about in the first set is grand designs and analong kid. force ten, territories, body electric were good tries, but they are the weaker songs on their respective albums and the band could have made much better choices than those three songs. big money and bravado are good songs, so i won't complain about those. far cry is a the first real stinker. i could have done without where's my thing. second set will be mostly clockwork angels, with tom sawyer, limelight, spirit. very disappointed.
ReplyDeleteFar Cry is SOLID!!! And as far as The Body Electric= It is leaps and bounds ahead of almost all others on Grace, especially Distant Early Warning!!! Let me guess, you are one of those people that listened to FASTER PUSSYCAT and RATT in the 80s???????????
DeleteI hope they do play the whole ca or most of it, u know it is the ca tour. I had people tell me they weren't going gobthru s&a tour cause of too many new songs, oh well u missed out cause it was a great tour from a great album and ca is also a great album.
ReplyDeleteI love BU2B, I hope that isn't skipped...
ReplyDeleteSo I guess no Working Man? Gotta love the cover album songs. I agree geddy can't handle his early stuff. I still like the setlist.
ReplyDeleteHere's the score: More unexpected tunes than standards so far, just not the unexpected ones most commenters would have wanted to here. I've seen Rush every tour since p/g so after the last four, VT, 30TH, S&A, and TM, and all the dvd's, I could care less about all of MP, Per.W, Hemi, AFTK and most of their first 3 records. If u noticed all of the previous 3 or 4 tours totally ommitted the 90's and 80's with the exception of the "hits." All that we can do is wish them well, specifically in their sound and presentation and I'm satisfied. RUSH ON!!
ReplyDeleteTell them Brother !!!!!
DeleteI have been to all Rush tours since 1976 and this is a great setlist. Each tour's setlist should be fresh with songs not played in awhile.
ReplyDeleteI am always amused at people who want the same songs played every tour.
I may travel to some shows I was planning for this
BU2B a good drop. Would've said drop Caravan too since we saw both those last tour on both legs. But I get why they need that to launch a C/A set.
ReplyDeleteSecond set hopes
ReplyDelete(not in this particular order)
Caravan
BU2B
CA
Anarchist
7 cities
Wreckers
Headlong flight
TS
TSOR
Overture/syrinx
Do fans complain about the setlist from EVERY rush tour?
ReplyDeleteThere are a percentage of them that do complain every tour. Some will complain/bitch if Rush played every song in theie catalog.
DeleteThe Anarchist!!! Fav tune from the new album...
ReplyDeleteThis setlist rules so far!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen them since 91 and I got tix for Chicago. I can't stop thinking BIG!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought "Losing it" would be on the setlist b/c of the violins, but the violins on that track were electronic, so not sure.
ReplyDeleteI guess after the solo they played Far Cry and Caravan is happening now to start the second set.
ReplyDeleteViolin on Losing It was an electric violin, but it was not "electronic." I.e., not synth, Midi. Played very nicely by a guest artist.
ReplyDeleteThat was Ben Mink. He played on Geddys solo album also.
DeleteIve only seen Subdivisions and far cry live so this is fresh for me, \losing it and garden would be the cherry on top for my 300 dollar ticket in Edmonton!
ReplyDeleteYes!!! can't believe they pulled this song out, they r kicking my ass. Wooo whoooo
ReplyDeleteWhich song?
DeleteThe anarchist
DeleteGreat song.
DeleteHaven't missed a tour since MP and it's great to see them mix up the set list. I truly don't care what songs they select as long as they mix it up. Judging from the first set they are mixing it up big time.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to comment on a new Rush set list in 2012 is a true gift. Let's not forget that fact. They can't please everyone, but damn if it isn't cool to be talking about Rush 30 years after I started listening to them.
ReplyDeleteRock on boys.
Crap. They dropped Seven Cities, biggest ball-buster on C/A.
ReplyDeleteencore is my guess!
DeleteI hope so!
DeleteApparently not. Rumored encore: Tom Saywer/Spirit of Radio
DeleteThen they have throw YYZ in there somewhere as it was done in soundcheck
i hope they have afew songs that are before the encore but after CA.
DeleteThis is a pretty good set list, all things considered. I just hope they surprise with Jacobs Ladder or something similarly rare..
ReplyDeleteI get to see 'em again in 2 weeks. Can't wait, no matter what they play. So far i'm happy with the set, but i'm hoping for entres nous.
ReplyDeleteOh old new and the Anarchist is my fav Rush tune of all time.
ReplyDeleteThey're hitting most of my favs from CA.
ReplyDeleteHow many times do I have to hear you people beg for Jacob's Ladder? It is not happening! Haven't you paid attention? Neil said on the last tour they tried it but it didn't work. His words were "Sometimes you can't go back." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bFKzmR999M
ReplyDeletePLEASE, GIVE IT UP PEOPLE.
What are the songs they have played so far?
ReplyDeleteDeftinetly making a comeback with the second set . All we need now are the staples
ReplyDeleteI hope they play all of Caress of Steel after CA to close the show. That way by the time they hit Necromancer only security and venue staff will be left in the building. (EXTREME SARCASM INTENDED) bustin strumzilla and brian gaddys balls. Lovin it boys cant wait for ATL
ReplyDeleteLOL AND LOL
DeleteMore than enough solos. 2 drum solos? Why not just one?
ReplyDeleteGeddy should get a bass solo spot as insurance.
Don't realy care for this list either. So pissed I missed the last tour now.
ReplyDeleteif they play the fountain of lameth....i will lick my balls
ReplyDeleteTHE SECOND SET SO FAR:
ReplyDeleteCARAVAN
CLOCKWORK ANGELS
THE ANARCHIST
CARNIES
THE WRECKERS
HEADLONG FLIGHT
DRUM SOLO (PT 2)
GUITAR SOLO (ELECTRIC)
HALO EFFECT
Oh ok, now all u mfers wanna know what songs they r playing in the second set after most of u trashed the first set, they r playing rush songs aholes
ReplyDeleteGarden would be the perfect wrap after Headlong. Then on to the Classics!!
ReplyDeleteFirst stinker of the night. Urgh.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah there's going to be a 3rd set too! After the 5th quarter/double overtime
