Gibson Ranks the "Top 10 Rock Drummers of All Time"

While Gibson may be known for guitars, that hasn't stopped them from reaching out into other musical areas. Accordingly, a new section of their website discusses the Top 10 Rock Drummers of All Time where Neil Peart came in at the #2 spot:
2. Neal Peart (Rush)

Drummer and lyricist for Rush, Neal Peart is hailed in many circles as the quintessential rock drummer. He’s known for his ingenious drum parts and intense solos with lead passages that rock hard and prove the drums, indeed, can be a lead instrument. No Rush concert is complete without Peart’s sparking, obligatory drum solo, and his syncopated drumming style certainly has its own distinct sound and aura. You can always tell when it’s Peart playing.
Taking the top spot is, not surprisingly, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin which makes Neil the #1 Living Rock drummer of all time.

  1. To this day, I am still amazed how many times Ringo Starr is included in Top Drumming Lists...

Not taking ANYTHING away from the Beetles -- but Ringo Starr couldn't drum his way out of a paper bag...

    Just my 2 cents :)

  2. Shouldn't the #1 drummer on the list have been Jon Bonham?

  3. Bonham isn't in the same class as Peart,I like bonham, but can't understand how people think he's so great.

  4. The argument for Bonham - and to a degree against Neil - was that Bonham was able to create a very deep sound from essentially a small 5 or 6 piece drum kit where Neil, while he too gets a deep and varied sound, does so by using a 30-piece kit.

I don't necessarily agree with that - but that is what I've heard more than once...

  5. Neil is without doubt the #1 living drummer. He's also the #1 drummer of all time.
With all due respect to Bonso, he couldn't carry Neil's water bottle.

  6. Carl Palmer? Rodger Taylor? Neil Pert #2? Bad List

  7. Dave Grohl and Lars Ulrich don't belong on that list. Danny Carey does. I'm OK with Bonham at the top, for pushing/pulling time and 100% brass balls. He wasn't sonically too intricate or widespread, but was always in your face. Without Bonham, no Zeppelin.

Though the recording quality is a little off, this is my favorite Peart solo...it's the African lead-off and swing flourish ending.

  8. Just because you have a 30 piece kit doesn't mean you know how to play, Neil is one of the few that can play a 30 piece kit, would have been interesting to see bonzo behind a 30 piece kit, there are 2 sides to that argument.

  9. I do agree that Bonzo was a great drummer, however, there is no Zep without John Paul Jones.
