Exclusive Video: Rush Rock Madison Square Garden

Geddy Lee of Rush at Madison Square Garden
Rolling Stone Magazine has posted a new 7-minute video interview with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson that took place backstage at Madison Square Garden where Rush played in front of a sold-out crowd on Sunday, April 10th. From Rolling Stone:
We went backstage – and right in front of the stage, video cameras in hand – at the Madison Square Garden stop of Rush's Time Machine tour, where the power trio roared through all of their 1980 breakthrough Moving Pictures and much more. Here's dynamic live footage from the show, plus Brian Hiatt's exclusive interview with the band, where they discussed the making of "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight" and other classic tracks.

  1. Though I heard that Rush put on another amazing show, there were plenty of glitches as well.

From a friend who was in attendance:

"...there were many technical problems with the video. The opening sequence with Alex in the fat suit was a disaster. They ran 7 minutes of it (just before he pushed the time machine button) and the file server crapped out and froze. No backup was in place and they had to run it from the start again with the whole Willowdale text, etc. There were no fire effects but there was fireworks (doesn’t make sense because during Snakes And Arrows, they ran the fire effects at MSG). So no fire during Caravan or Witch Hunt. The stage was smaller so they didn’t have those hi-res monitors (x3) behind them. It was like the old days, one large rear projection screen (not as crisp). That started to pixelate and breakup during Vital Signs which actually worked with the song. Finally, that dumb video at the end also froze and the entire placed went BOO! They manage to pick up where they left off but then the video and audio were out of sync by a second. The video from the live cameras towards the end of the show were also out of sync. Alex would move his arm on stage and then you’d see it about 20 frames later up on the screen..."

A shame because the Hershey show was flawless in every way...

Ah well, at the end of the day, it's all about the music...
